GENERAL ELECTION.

It is now improbable that die Reform Party will nominate a candidate for the Christchurch North seat at the general election (states a Christchurch correspondent). During tho week-end developments have taken place which promise that the interests of the Reform voters in the tlisiti(. will not be prejudiced by leaving the contest to Mr L. 31. Isitt, M.P., and the Rev. J. K. Archer (Labour). When questioned regarding die report that he would not bo opposed by a Reform candidate in Christchurch North at tho coining election, Mr Isitt, M.P., said ho had nothing to say on the matter. “Naturally,” he said, “1 was very interested to see the paragraph. It seemed to me tho sane thing for any party to do, which did not Nvisli to see the strength of the extreme Labour Party increased. So far as my position is concerned, it lists always been absolutely definite that while 1 am a Liberal, and, of course, would rejoice if my party were in power, with a definite majority, I am absolutely opposed to its assuming power at the mercy of a majority vote created by the support of extreme Labour. Mr Holland has boasted that lie would pul the Reform Party out and the Liberals in, and that if the Liberals did not do as lie wanted, ho would put them out. He would never bo assisted in such a scheme by any action of mine.” Mrs 11. F. Herbert, a well-known social worker, has consented to contest the Avon seat at the general election as an Independent. TE AWAMUTU, Sept, 28. Mr J. T. Petrie, until recently a member of the Waipa Post literary staff and formerly editor of the Greymouth Star, has been selected as the official Liberal candidate for the Waikato seat.
