YOUNG FOXTON CO-OPERA-TORS WELCOME “UNCLE “PODGER.”

At the Masonic Hall last evening the members of the- Foxton Young Co-operators Sunbeam League gave a rousing reception to Uncle Podger, the organiser of the Young Co-operators’ League movement, and the editor of the Young People’s Page in the “N.Z. Co-opera-tor.” Master John MoKniglit presided, and explained the object of the gathering, and called on the children to give Uncle Podger a right royal welcome, which they certainly did. It was evident that Uncle Podger was right in his element, aiid a very happy evening ensued. The following young people contributed to the programme:—Hazel Morgan (president of League), Doris Morgan, Mona Stevenson (vice-president), Reta Dunn (treasurer), Ngaire Dunn, Heather Nattrass, Royce Aitcheson, Ivy Gay, Ruby King, John McKnight (secretary) j Melville Francis, Alton - Francis, Ted Nattrass, Bob

Gay, Frank Gay, Dick Gupwell. Miss Retter, and Mr Harold Baine

also rendered acceptable items, while Mr John Gokler brought the house down -with a humorous song, and led the community singing. Uncle Podger sang, and played the piano and violin, told funny stories, and later addressed the children seriously on the objects of the League work, namely the organisation of young people for the cultivation of the spirit of unselfishness, comradeship and love. During the evening, at Uncle Podger’s request, all the members of the League were individually introduced to Uncle Podger, who desires to be personally acquainted with all his correspondents. A memorable evening ended with the lusty singing and whistling of “He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” and supper..

Mr and Mrs Rowlatt, Mr and Mrs Bowater, and Mrs Aitcheson did yoeman work in connection with the supper and general arrangements.
