FOXTON TENNIS CLUB.
The annual meeting of members of the above club is advertised to take place in Ross’ Buildings 'tonight, at 7.30 o’clock, when it is hoped there will be a good attendance of members and intending members. The balance-sheet and report will be submitted, and officers elected for the current year.
The following is the report to be submitted to the meeting:—“Your Committee has pleasure in submitting to you the annual report and balance-sheet-. The past season has been a most successful one, members displaying enthusiasm right through. Nine inter-club matches were played, five going to us, and four to our opponents. If the present playing of a number of members is any indication, we should be most successful in interclub matches for the coming season. Members are urged to encourage new blood into the Club, as much as possible, as a good membership is essential for a Clhb that wishes to he successful. Finance: As you will see by the accompanying balance-sheet, the Club’s overdraft is £B4 4s lOd, a decrease of £3O 10s fid on the year’s working, which you will agree is a very satisfactory state of affairs. As a result of the Ball held in August last, a profit of £26 2s was shown,-which has reduced the overdraft considerably; also the dances held during the year yielded a profit of £l3 0s 2d, £7 being spent- in the purchase of trophies. We are indebted to the following persons for donations of trophies:— Mr R. Bryant, shield (won by N. Ross), R.S.A. Ball Committee, shield (won by Miss B. Pearson), Mrs Sherwood £1 Is (won by S. McDonnell and Miss K. Barber), Rev. Walton, rose bowl (won by Mrs McMurray), Club Trophies: Men’s handicap, cup, won by C. Bryant: combined doubles handicap, won by Thorpe and Mrs Moore. The necessary expense for the coming season will be: —A new fence at the top end of the courts, a new net, repairing of one nejt, marking the courts, and a new kettle. Tf the above items are attended to immediately the courts will be in no further need of repair for some time to come. The expenses for the coining year should be comparatively small, provided members roll up to ‘working bees,’ enabling expenses to be kept at a minimum. The membership of the Club now stands at 56, an inerease ot 1-1 for the year. The next season should see a fair increase. In conclusion, your Committee, in retiring from office, desires to thank the members for their assistance and support during the past season, and wish the incoming Committee success ami prosperity during the year.” The balance-sheet discloses that 1t,,, season commenced with an overdraft' of £ll4 15 4d, and closed with an overdraft of £B4 4s lOd.
