“ROCHDALE” CO-OPERATION.
“My mission,” says Mr Tedman, Dominion i rganiser for the Rochdale Co-op. rative movement, who is spending' ;■ few days in Foxton as the guest ■ f the local Society, “is to endeavour to show both the general public and the members of our Societies that Rochdale Co-operation stands for something infinitely bigger and better than local storekeeping. Our objective is nothing less ambitious than the building of a new world, in which the selfishness which is the curse of the old civilisation, shall be eliminated. We are not looking for customers for a grocery store so much its we are looking to persuade an increasing proportion of our citizenship to practice the spirit of comradeship. What we cannot do to-day we shall try to do to-morrow, and the measure in which we fall short of our objective in this generation we hope to reach up to in the next. Our hope is in the young people, and already our young people’s organisations in New Zealand are showing the value of the effort spent on them. Nothing is surer than that before long the present order must pass away. We hope when that day comes we co-opera-tors will have a system soundly established which shall be worthy of the people’s wholehearted acceptance.”
Mr Tedman speaks on “Rochdale Co-operation” in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday evening.
