CELEBRATED YESTERI ).\Y. DANNEVIRKE, Scpl. 21. The foundation of tho present prosperous district of Norsewood 50 years ago was celebrated yesterday by the settlers in line weather. Many of the original settlers, now old and infirm, were present, and the big assemblage included Sir George Hunter, M.P., Lady Hunter, and Mr Wiig, Norwegian vico-Consul in the Dominion, who came from Invercargill io he present. Speeches' appropriate to the occasion were delivered and a memorial oak was planted by the oldest original settler, aged 90, to mark the golden jubilee. A national flag was presetitod by the Norwegian ViceConsul and a beautiful wreath placed at the foot of the oak tree in loving memory of the pioneers. Sir George Hunter unveiled a polished granite memorial slab, which will perpetuate the occasion, and a cable was read from the Norwegian Consul-General in Melbourne, conveying from the Norwegian Government greetings from the homeland to the pioneers and,their descendants.
