FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SPRING SHOW. The above society’s spring show was held in the Town Hall yesterday and w r as formally opened by the Mayor (John Chrystall Esq.) in the afternoon. The attendance of the public both in the afternoon and evening was very encouraging to the society’s efforts. The staging of exhibits and the thoroughness of the details reflected credit upon the stewards, committee and indefatigable secretary, Mr H. Frankland. The total number of entries were 284 and while not equal to last year, the drop was accountable for the absence of two of the principal exhibitors, namely * Mesdames A. S. Easton and Galland. The bulb sections (Of) entries) were represented by magnificent blooms exhibited by Messrs W. Cb Bond, A. W r . Broadway and several local growers including Mr E. J. Murphy and Mrs McMurray. Mr Murphy is a new exhibitor and his exhibits will be keenly looked for at future shows. Mr Shatters trophy was won outright this year ITv Mr W. 0. Bond. The new citizens Trophy, was won by Mrs McMurray this year. The decorative classes were fairly well filled, the entries being good in the decorated tables which were much admired. . The cookery and home industry sections were well filled. In these sections the honours went to Miss Skellen, Mosdatnes Andrews, C. Rand, and W illiams." Visitors expressed surprise and pleasure at the excellent display and splendid arrangements. The tea rooms were quite a feature of the show and were supervised by Mesdames Pearson and Heasmnn and assistants. '1 he president (Rev. Mr Walton) delivered a short and encouraging address on the aims and objects of the association and referred to the loss in exhibits this year owing to the absence of Mesdames Galland (who has left the district) and A. S. Easton (on account of illness). He congratulated Mrs McMurray on wining the citizens’ trophy this year and asked residents to emulate this grower’s example. During the evening community singing, led by Mr J. Aitken, was indulged in. The secretary desires us to thank all who assisted in making the show a success, especially the stewards, committee and treasurer (Mr Patterson). Mr A. Gibson judged the blooms and vegetables, Mrs C. M. Imrie decorative, and Mr A. E. Whitebead the cookery. The following officiated as stewards, Mesdames Moore, Procter, Honore, AA'yllie, McMurray, Trueman, Owen, C. H. Symons, Misses O.
