FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

. A special meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held in the Board’s office at 11 a.m. on Saturday .and was presided over by Air Linklater (chairman). Authority was given to the chairman and treasurer to operate on the Board’s account at the Foxton branch of the Bank of N.Z. and to empower the secretary to endorse all cheques, etc., and, further, to lodge with the manager of the said bank the new authority.It was decided to notify the Foxton Borough Council of the vacancy existing on the Board and to appoint forthwith a qualified man to till the position. « It was unanimously decided, on the motion of Air Chrystall, seconded by Mr Barber, to circularise shipping companies and ship owners concerning the vital question of trading with the’ port and to enclose a copy of the pilot’s report which would go to show that at the present time the bar and the shallowest portion of the river would allow of any vessel drawing up to i) feet to come in and out with ease. It was suggested that he N.Z. Shipping Company might he approached with a view to revising rheir storage charges in order, to encourage outward cargo. In connection the local branch of the N.Z. Shipping Coy. informed the -secretary that where wool is intended for the London or foreign market in* storage is charged and that dumping is undertaken locally and shipped directly for its destination. Where wool is intended for the Wellington market it is cheaper for the owners to rail same. Tt was decided to invite public tenders for the newly surveyed sections at the Beach; and to advertise the Board’s residence, formerly occupied by the pilot for letting purposes for a period of two or three years. It, was decided to hold the next regular meeting of the Board at the Borough Council Chambers, Palmerston North, on Thursday, September 14th, at 1.30 p.m.
