BOWLING

The annual general meeting of the Foxton Bowling Club will be held in the Town Hall supper-room at 8 o’clock this evening, when the annual report and 1 balance-sheet will be submitted, and the officers for the ensuing year elected. Following is the annual report: • The committee have pleasure in submitting-' -the annual report and balance-sheet for the season 192122. The opening of the green took place on the 12th October and was again a most successful function almost every club within the centre being represented besides individual members from outside centres. Invitations were received from every club in, the centre . and in almost every case your club was represented. More visits were paid to sister clubs this season than last and your committee recommend that these visits should be encouraged. The Triangular , Shield again created great interest amongst the three participants and during the season it was won by Levin and we congratulate our neighbours on their victory. Next- season we hope again to arrest the coveted trophy. We consider that the rules now governing this competition are eminently satisfactory, as the last contest was disposed of without a hitch of any kind whatsoever. The Nye Ferns, as of old were keenly contested throughout the season. The Wilford Cup, a handsome trophy kindly donated by the Hon. Mr T. M. Wilford were played as a Singles Competition and was won by Mr Pearson, a comparatively young player, after very keen contest throughout the season. We congratulate Mr-Pear-son on his meritorious win. Mr D. Whibley, who was the runner-up, is also entitled to our congratulations. He was unlucky in not winning the Trophy as lie, up to the final, won his three previous games by playing ar. extra head. We regret that little

or no ..interest had been taken in the 'pairs competitions provided for by the Stevenson Penants and Club pins and trust that, more prominence will be given to these during the coming season, because these competitions go a long way sustain the interest among the members. A rink from your club, skipped by Mr W. Nye, journeyed to Manawatu to -try conclusions for the Manson and

Barr Cup, and was successful in ' bringing home the handsome trophy which they successfully defended on four occasions. The club was represented at the Wanganui and Palmerston North tournaments but in both instances were unsuccessful in gaining prizes. The gala day as arranged by the Centre was a successful and enjoyable function. Two local pairs tournament were held during New Year and were highly satisfactory. During the season the club had the misfortune of losing one of its founders and most enthusiastic members in the person of your worthy ex-Presi-dent, Dr. Marnll, who left the district, and your committee recommend that you will create him one of your life-members. We regret exceedingly to record the death of a very worthy member in the person of Mr F. K. Stubbing, whose genial disposition will no doubt be missed on the green and we also regret to record the death of Mr Henderson, an ex-member and caretaker of the club. Messrs Nye and Adinore, as delegates to the centre, carried out their duties faithfully and well and your committee strongly recommends their re-appointment. The club is indebted to members (both bowlers and croquet) for their kindness in contributing baskets most freely and willingly when called upon and subscribing to the presentation fund. The catering arrangements worked satisfactory and members are very much indebted to the ladies for their untiring efforts in dispensing. On your behalf the committee take this opportunity o£ thanking Mr J. T. ' Follas for his very thoughtful gift which he donated to the Club’s refreshment account. The club is in need of active members and your committee recommend to one and all the advisability of using best efforts to introduce at least during the coming season one new member each. Owing to the financial depression now experienced the Club is not in a position to engage a highly paid green-keeper and your committee recommend the advisability of electing members for the incoming committee who are willing to give practical assistance in keeping the green. in order. In conclusion we desire to thank all who in any way assisted in the work on the green and trust that the coming season will be a highly enjoyable and successful one.
