AMBUSHED BY STRIKERS.
RAILWAY GUARD KILLED. OUTRAGE IN GEORGIA. Received August 31, 10.5 a.in. NEW YORK, Aug. 30. At Augusta, Georgia, one southern railway guard was killed and one fatally wounded. They were ambushed by strikers. —A. and N.Z. cable. WIDESPREAD SABOTAGE. TRAINS TAMPERED WITH. WASHINGTON, Aug. 29. The infer-State Commerce Commission has reported to the Senate that full trains are being diverted to isolated railway sidings and coal cars tampered with and made unserviceable. The Department of Justice will act promptly and prosecute in any -cases of sabotage. The Commission further reported that during July half the locomotives inspected were found to be defective, and one-fourth of these were declared absolutely unsafe for use. A complete inspection of rolling stock is impossible. owing to the strike. Mr Hoover reported tlial the Government's task of transporting coal is especially difficult, since tho shortage makes it necessary that seventeen millions tons weekly should be distributed, while the normal amount is only fourteen million tons.-—A. and N.Z. cable.
