TREATY WITH IRELAND.

MESSAGE FROM~MR COSGROVE. POLICY TO BE CONTINUED. LONDON, Aug. 27. Mr Winston Churchll on the 24th inst. telegraphed to Mr Cosgrove: “The death ot two of tiie signatories, the retirement of another, and the desertion of a fourth in nowise ali’ects the validity or sanctity of tiie settlement entered into with the plenipotentiaries of the Irish nation. On tho contrary, we are sure that the Provisional Government and the Irish people will feel it all the more a sacred duty to carry into lull effect the act of reconciliation between tbe two islands. For our part, we hold ourselves bound on the treaty basis and will meet good faith with goodwill.” Mr Cosgrove replied : “President Griffith and General Collins had selected and attracted to whole-hearted co-operation with them a number of colleagues. The Government so formed stood with unswerving consistency to tiie programme for carrying into the fullest effect in accordance with the declared wish of tho Irish people tho treaty signed by our plenipotentiaries, and recommended by Messrs Griffith and Collins as offering tho fairest hopes for our much tried people. Their colleagues have the same policy, and though overwhelmed with sorrow- take up the same task with the same determination and confidence.” —
