REVIEW FOR READERS.

All-fiction magazines are increasing in popularity each month, and one that is always welcomed is the “Premier.” The issue for July 11 is full of good reading. The authors are well’and favourably known, Roland Pertwee, Wallace Irwin, Henry Vance and Edward Cecil being numbered among the contributors. Ihe “Premier” is cleverly illustrated, enclosed in a smart pictorial cover and is .sold at a moderate price. In the “London” magazaiue, August issue, the Rt. Hon. Augustine Birrell contributes a striking article, “Some Reflections on Ireland.” Mr Birrell held for nine years the post of Chief Secretary and therefore writes with unrivalled authority and insight. Hector Macpherson, M.A., F.R.A.S., provides- an interesting article, “Mars the Mysterious,” illustrated by special drawings, George Duncan has an illustrated article on Golf, and Sir Basil Thomson, K.C.8., continues “The Diary of a Prison Governor.” Fiction is provided by Edgar Jepson, Bill Adams, A. M. Burrage, John Buchan, etc., whilst a feature of the issue is a set of beautiful pictures from Holland reproduced in photogravure. The “London”.is an excellent number in every respect.
