POWER BOARD’S OPERATIONS.
PRELIMINARIES TO ACTIVE WORK. At the meeting of the Horowhenna Power Board on Tuesday Mr Matheson asked what work the Engineer would take in hand first. As much publicity as possible should be given to the Board’s operations. The Engineer said his first work would be to get out the quantities of material required, and to call for tenders for the supply and delivery of that material. He would first have to make a more definite estmate and survey than lie had done.
Mr Gunning thought it rather a pity the Board was not ready to go on with some of the work, as it would relieve some of the unemployment. Later on, when all the Boai’ds were operating at once there might be a scarcity of labour.
The chairman said the Board was proceeding as fast as it could. He had not felt inclined to countenance committing the Board to expenditure until the ratepayers had given their verdict. He agreed with Mr Gunning that it would be very nice to he able to provide the work, bin considered the Board bad been
judicious in its progress. The Engineer said he would start out from Shannon and work from there to Poxton and Levin.
