HARBOUR BOARD VACANCY.

The death of Mr W. Bock causes a vacancy on the Foxton Harbour Board which will he officially notified by that- body in due course. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council, the vacancy was referred to by Cr. Martin, who moved that Cr. Whibley be appointed to the position by the Council. This was seconded by Cr. Rand. Cr. Martin said that, the Council had the right to make the appointment. He said he was actuated by the fact that he had been informed that a man was to be nominated for the position who had been antagonistic to the Board. Cr. Whibley said the Council had the power to make the appointment. The Mayor questioned l the wisdom of acting so precipitely in the matter. Cr. Martin’s statement as to the Council might be in order, but lie thought the Council should have time to consider the matter. He would move an amendment to hold the matter over until next meeting. Other Councillors endorsed -the Mayor’s action and Cr. Martin consented to hold his motion over until next meeting.
