EXTENSION OF MORATORIUM.
QUESTION BY MR ED. NEWMAN.
Mr E. Newman (Manawatu) has given notice to ask the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation this session to further extend the moratorium after the end of 1924? [Note. —Owing to the demand for money by. local bodies, and ilie 'fact that certain Government loans are free to income-tax, the .supply of money for mortgage purposes over country lands is already seriously reduced, with the result that as the period of maturity of the moratorium approaches it will probably become more and more difficult to sell farm lands on which there are mortgages. A statement from the Government that it is proposed to further extend the term for repayment under the Mortgage and Deposits Extension Act, 1921, would do much to relieve the position, and would, it is considered, be in the interest of the producers a of the Dominion.]
