THE MANAWATU SEAT.

THE GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE. MR LINKLATER’S CANDIDATURE ENDORSED. A meeting of Government supporters from all parts of the Manawatu electorate was held at Foxton yesterday. Mr Ed. Newman, M.P, was also in attendance. The object of the meeting was to confirm the candidature of Mr Joseph Linklater as the Government candidate for Manawatu at the General Election. After the delegates had discussed several subjects with the candidate, Mr Linklater’s candidature was confirmed and an endorsement of same was received from the Prime Minister. It was unanimously resolved to tender Mr Ed. Newman, M.P., a farewell banquet at Foxton at the end of August and to welcome Mr Linklater as Mi* Newman’s successor at the function. ’ The Prime Minister and members of Cabinet are to be invited to attend the function. Several matters of interest in connection with the campaign were discussed.
