THE FAMOUS N.Z. DIGGERS
TOWN HALL, FOXTON, MONDAY,
31 ST JULY. It is always gratifying to good talent to find itself appreciated and in this respect the present combination of the Famous Diggers is proving no exception. Good houses are <irawn at every performance, and judging by the tumultuous applause, if is plain to see that the entertainment provided meets with the thorough approval of patrons. All- Joe Valli, who made such an impression on the last visit, with his sketch “Tickets Please” is well !o the fore again with comicalities hard to beat, and his characterisation in the absurd sketch “The Raw Recruits” o rentes n continual bubble of merriment, besides which he .hows more of his capability ns an eccentric dancer. Mr Bernard Beeby, a baritone, is late of J. C. Williamsons “Maid of the Mountains” company, and bis offerings meet with continual npphiuse from the audiences to whom he has been liilr aluced. One of the “star” items of the new programme is Gus Dawson’s D. ii,-:- Seam “The Scarecrow’s Awakening” a remarkable conception staged in a unique setting. Mr Dawson, who left the Diggers about ■ year ago, went to Sydney and iained J. C. Williamson’s and the Ax months’ engagement under that • •iagnncnt has made of him an artist of no mean order.
Frank Moran whose ,-ong “My .Mother’s Shawl” evoked roars of 'alighter in last programme, emues to the front again with more mirth
"revoking offerings than ever, particularly “The Toreador." The whole programme is suffused with
a abudnance of clever, high class comedy, new and haunting song numbers, numerous dance presenta-
tions, both solo and duet, while ’•’rank Perryn, the “Robey” comedian, gives an excellent impression of Wilkie Bard’s “Stage Cleaner” beside some further offerings from his repertoire of character studies. “Jane, hurry up and wash the dishes, we must get to the “Diggers.”
