FIRE BRIGADE.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Foxton \ 7 olunteer Fire Brigade was held in Afr Perreau’s tea rooms on Tuesday night. There was a full muster of Brigade members present and Superintendent Hamer occupied the chair. CORRESPONDENCE. was read and dealt with as follows: From the New Plymouth and Dannevirke Brigades giving information regarding the brigade rules. —Received. From the Palmerston North Brigade inviting the local brigade to their annual ball on the 31st of this month. —Decided that the Brigade be represented. RESIGNATIONS. Air J. K. Hornhlow tendered his resignation on account of his being appointed Government representative on the Board. —Accepted with regret. Fireman Frankland tendered his resignation as secretary to the Brigade owing to his being appointed secretary to the Board. Fireman Frankland said that his resignation was not from the Brigade hut merely from the position as secretary which position lie was not allowed j. to occupy while at the same time acting in the capacity as secretary to the Board. He thanked all the members for the assistance they had rendered him and said that the work had always been a pleasure to him. Decided to accept Fireman Frnnkland’s resignation from the position as secretary and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded him for the exeellent and most capable manner in which he had carried out his duties. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. “During the year the Brigade attended nine fires at which losses amounting to about £28,000 were incurred, this, of course, included the Levin and Co.’s sheds valued at £25,000. The insurances, as far as has been ascertained, amount to £1,(545. The insurance on Levin and Co.’s sheds and contents not being made known. In response to an invitation from the Brigade Inspector Hugo paid a visit to Foxton and besides giving an interesting and instructive speech on fires and firefighting, gave particulars and estimates of initial cost and upkeep of a Fire Board, which has since been formed. The following donations have been received during the year:—
making in all a sum of £2l Bs. ~m A hall was held on July 10th resulting in a further sum of £l4 3s 5d being added to the funds. On the motion of Fireman Smith the officers’ titles were changed from Captain, Lieutenant and Sub-lieutenant to Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent and Foreman. H. Carter, who performed the duties of secretary, being transferred, his duties were undertaken by Fireman H. Frankland. The following have been added to the Brigade’s equipment :—one 24-foot extension ladder. two full size fireman’s axes, three hurricane lamps, one leadlined funnel, and one wrecking grapnel. T am pleased to see that secretary Frankland Inis been appointed secretary to the newly formed Fire Board, but regret to lose his sendees as secretary to the Brigade also Firemen A. N. Smith and J. K. Homblow who have been appointed members of the Fire Board.” —Adopted. The balance-jdieet for the year 1021-22 disclosing a credit balance of £2O 17s lid was read and adopted. Tt was decided to close the present account at the hank and open a new one under the heading of the brigade social fund. SECRETARY. Fireman W. Retter was unanimously elected secretaiy to the brigade. TREASURER,. Mr Perreau was re-elected to the position of Treasurer.
