FOXTON FIRE BOARD.
A special meeting of the Foxton Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs *J. Chrystall (chairman), R. Bryant, A. N. Smith, Hornblow, Bews and E. C. Rowe. Mr F. G. Cray was granted leave of absence. SECRETARY. Mr H. Frankland was unanimously appointed secretary at a salary of £25 per. annum. SUPERINTENDENT. The appointment, of Superintendent and deputy-superintendent was held over pending a recommendation from Inspector Hugo. SITES FOR. FIRE STATION. Several offers of sites for tire station were submitted and the local members were authorised to negotiate for the purchase of a site selected at a cost, not to exjr-eed £llO. V . ESTIMATES. The. estimates totalling £1,500 for capital expenditure were adopted after careful consideration, and it was decided to raise a loan by the issue of short-dated debentures of £IOO each for five years bearing interest at 6 per cent., plus one per cent, sinking' fund. The estimates for maintenance totalled £250 and were adopted. BY-LAWS. The by-laws submitted by the local committee were considered and adopted, subject to the approval of the Minister of Internal Affairs. ARCHITECT. Decided to engage an architect to prepare plans and specifications for fire station on the plans suggested by Inspector Hugo. GENERAL. Superintendent Barnard, of Palmerston N., is to be asked to value the present plant, on behalf of the Board, with a view of taking same over from the Borough Council. A vote of thanks has accorded to Mr Hornblow for services rendered as acting secretary. 4
