MUNICIPAL BY-ELECTION.
CITIZENS’ CANDIDATE BEATS LABOUR, Wellington, Yesterday.' The result of the municipal byelection caused by the death* of Mr Underwood, was: A. W. Parton, Citizens’ candidate, 5752; J. Glover, Labour', 4103; Patrick Cavanagh, 211. There was a small poll, but in view of the candidates’ attitude regarding the decision of the tramwaymen to strike, Mr Parton being against Mr Glover in supporting the men’s action, more than usual interest was taken in the election. Mr Cavanagh, whose candidature was not treated seriously, loses his deposit.
