ROYAL PICTURES.
Herbert Rawlinson makes his third stellar appearance under his present Universal contract at the < Royal to-night. The vehicle is “The Scrapper,” an adaptation of E. G. Kirk’s Saturday Evening Post story entitled “Malloy Campeador,” directed by Hobart Henley. “The Scrapper” is the story of an Irishman who cannot keep 1 from smiling, even in the face of defeat. The Irish hero has a wav of making love that appeals td women and particu-y larly to Eileen, his employer’s daughter, but she gives him the pyo-.x - per quota of slaps on his handsome face and keeps Him as well within hounds as possible. Unusual lighting effects and photography by Virgil Miller ari said to he a feature of the pictured Alice Joyce has an ideal role in “The Inner Chamber,” the big attraction at the Royal on Friday. It iA one in which she excels. She portrays both the society girl and the woman of poverty. She is beset by unscrupulous social enemies, but rises above them all and in the end triumphs.- The story is intensely dramatic and furnishes all the players with roles that require exceptional ability. The story is adapted from Charles Dobie’s “The Blood Red Dawn.” Not alone the story present Miss Joyce with excellent opportunities for emotional acting, but the other characters call for stage ability of the highest' order and the cast is an unusually lengthy one. -
