MILITARY TRAINING
The new system of seven days continuous training for local territorials and cadets in lieu of the old system of fortnightly evening drills system of fortnightly evening drills, is proving a success locally. The training was commenced this week. The trainees parade from 8.30 a.m. to 4,30 p.m. daily, with one hour for lunch. They do elementary military exercises up to platoon drill, with plenty of physical training and shooting. The attendance is 20 territorials and 19 cadets. The trainees are very keen and prefer the new system to the old. A football match was played on Wednesday in which the cadets gave the territorials a severe trouncing bv 40 points to 3. On Monday afternoon next there will be a demonstration at 2 o’clock of Lewis gun firing at the range, to which the officers extend a cordial invitation to the public. Captain Stewart and SergeantMajor Peare are in charge of the camp.
