THE BOOKMAKER.
LICENSING OBJECTED TO. tt Wellington This Day. - The licensing of bookmakers was objected to by the annual conference of country racing clubs last night, and it was decided to ask Parliament not to entertain the petition now in its hands. The conference adopted a resolution which expressed the conviction that such an act would be to the detriment of the present standard of sport. The annual report deplored the action of the House of Representatives is not agreeing to the Bill authorising the use of a “double” machine. “Nothing,” said the rep “would better help in extinguishing the bookmaker.”
