SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the local State School Committee was held last night. Present: Messrs Hornblow (chairman), iieo. Coley, E. Cowley, Pearson. Perreau, Jno. Ross, Stevenson, F. Whibley, R. Rnngiheuc-a (secretary) and the head master (Mr Banks). Correspondence was received from the Borough Council granting a rebate on sanitation charge.— Resolved to thank the Council for remission and to return ballot box. The Education Board -wrote agreeing to pay for 10 forms at £1 each, according to specifications forwarded.
Accounts amounting to £lB Is 3d were scrutinised and passed for payment.
Messrs Coley and Cowley, visilors for the month, submitted a report of work carried out, which included repairs to gate in horse paddock, (riming hedges and effecting minor repairs. Doors were recommended for the corridors to protect Ihe infant children from draughts ami cinders were required for path at the south side of the school.— Decided to procure cinders and apply to the Board for the erection of doors for the corridor.
Hie headmaster reported that the number on the roll is 432 and the percentage of average attendance on the average roll is 04.049. There have been during the quarter 36 admissions and 33 withdrawals. The average attendance for the quarter 403.64. Visitors: Miss Baker, Boarding-out Officer for the Education Department and Mr Large, Assistant Supervisor in Agriculture visited the school. Requirements: A few chairs and basket ball standards need repairing. Wire netting is needed on one side of school garden. A poi’tion of ground for school garden needs fencing. Iwo folding doors are needed at the end of the passage to make A comfortable part of the passage which is used as a class room. It is very cold and draughty there at present. School spouting is in a very leaky condition. The report was adopted and certain repairs and requirements were left in the hands of the headmaster also to report re agriculture class. It was decided to write to the Board and point out that the construction of lavatories, etc., could be proceeded with. •Resolved to apply for subsidy on flag-staff presented by Mr Geo. Coley. Messrs Pearson and Perreau were appointed visitors for the month.
