Harry Carey has his most: dramatic and sympathetic role in “Desperate Trails, ’ r the Universal photodrnW which is to be shown at the Royal on Wednesday night. Courtney Rylev Cooper wrote the story for the Red Book Magazine where it was widely read and Jack Ford directed its production at Universal sal City and in Truckee, the picturesque snow-country of California. The story, deals with a man who goes to prison for another, finds that the girl he thinks lie loves is mifaithfukand returns he marry the widow of the man who caused his trouble. Remarkable photography, the work of Harry Fowler, gives a thrilling dramatic quality to the big emotional scenes where the stalls seen staggering across the trackless white immensity of snow to escape from (lie man-hunters who pursue him for a train robber. Irene Rich, beloved among playgoers for her natural grace and sincerity, is Carey’s leading woman while Barbara La Mar, a talented brunette beauty, plays the role of the ununfaithfiil and returns to marry the and daring.
