FOXTON’S HARBOUR.

DEPUTATION CONCERNING NEW CUT. The Minister for.lnternal Affairs was approached on Thursday by a deputation- from the preposed Manawatu River Board, accompanied by Messrs E. Newman and J. A. Nash, M’s.P. It was explained that to enable a river board to operate it is necessary to give it control over n, fairly large area of land on .tidal waters now controlled by the Harbour Board.

Mr Linklater, chairman of the Fox ton Harbour Board, assured the Minister that there is no objection from that body. The proposal is part of a plan for a new cut near Eoxton which will improve the possibility of keeping the mouth of the river open for navigation. The Minister promised to have a suitable clause drafted for inclusion in the Local Bodies Empowering Bill.
