WANDERING STOCK
INCREASED FINES INFLICTED,
At the local S. M. Court yesterday, before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., the borough ranger, Mr J. McKnight, proceeded against a number of local residents for allowing stock to wander on the borough roads. R. Bryant, was lined 10/-, 15/and £l, on three charges with costs 7/- in each case. The ranger said that the defendant, who did not appear, was a Borough Councillor and should set an example in keeping the by-laws; His stock, despite frequent were allowed on the streets almost daily. He had been previously convicted for the offence.
The Magistrate said the law allowed a fine up to £5 for such offences and the fines would be increased for further reported offences. Keri Carter was fined on two similar charges 10/- and 15/- and costs 14/-. Piihi ITnledone, similarly charged was fined 5/- and 7/- costs.
Mrs P. Andresen, on a similar charge was fined 5/- and 7/- costs. For failing to register a dog Henry J. Salmons was convicted and fined 5/- and costs 7/-.
