SOCIALISTIC DEFEATS IN ENGLAND.
The recent Parliamentary elections in Australia instead of strengthening the position of the Labour Parties, which have donned the red garments and-become socialistic if not communistic, have gone very much the other way. In State after State the Red Labour Parties have suffered several defeats. In England this year a determined effort was made by the socialist and communist forces to capture the Boards of Guardians at the elections which took place in April. The results of the election, as given in the London Press,,were as follows :

FINAL RETURNS IN LONDON
LABOUR LOSE 52 SEATS
Final results of the elections for the Boards of Guardians, which took place in London on Wednesday. are now available. They emphasise the severity of the defeat which the electors have inflicted on the Labour Party. Poplar and Shoreditch are the only areas where the Labour-Socialistics have got a majority. Municipal Reformers, on balance won s(> seats; Independents won 17 seats, while Labour lost, on balance 52 seats and the Progressive 8 seats. The 719 guardians elected on Wednesday are composed of: Municipal Reformers 418 Progressives 38 Independents 134 Labour, 129 The Independents are mainly Municipal Reform, Progressive, and Ratepayers’ candidates running in conjunction. LESSON FOR NEW ZEALAND. The lesson for us from these recent events is that though British communities may suffer Red extremism to a considerable-extent, from the usual habit of British tolerance, there comes a time when the people say “enough of this folly, we want progress, reform and independent thought, but —Revolution —No! emphatically, No! whether you call it Labour or any other respectable name.” This will also he the attitude of the people of New Zealand when they realize the x'eal intention of the opportunist Revolutionary Party now engaged in seeking favour with the electors of this Dominion, .A
