LEVIN HIGH SCHOOL (3) V! -v-FOXTON NIL. ; _ Levin High School met the Foxton Fourths at Foxton on Saturday and defeated the local lads by an unconverted try. At the commencement of the match Foxton covered the field with seven stalwart youths, full of promise, and their task was by no means easy. Despite the odds they had to face their defence must be commended. Mr Robinson, the Fourth’s worthy coach, popularly (known l in sporting circles as “Trooper,” like the rest of the team turned up almost at the end of the first spell—the excuse being insufficient notice. At any rate “Trooper” got to work and within five minutes he had bvery position To the end of the first spell no score was registered. The second half was more eventful, for play was more keen. The passing rushes made by the visitors were very spectacular but on almost evei-v occasion were not attended by good fortune. Right throughout this half of the match High School showed agressiveness and the local lads had much to thank Procter, Perreau, Nj Ball, Huff and Hynes for their sound defence, repeatedly averting danger. In spite of this impregnable defence the boy, Warena, wor,v ked hard and eventually succeeded in getting over the line. The kick , at goal failed. , i HIGH SCHOOL 3: FOXTON NIL. Shortly after Warena’s try the referee, Mr W. Neville, sounded time. THIRD GRADE. 2■;i: ! . . ■ FOXTON THIRDS: 15 V. ROVERS: NIL. Foxton won the toss and defended the northern end. The visitors took the field with 12 men and their task wafe a very difficult one. They '<■ were hemmed in and rarely out of their 25 for the greater part of the match. Foxton, conscious of being within striking, distance every time, adopted individual play which every club , should never encourage. If everyone combined efforts, 'the seoro / would have- been three times as

much. Shortly after the game started Foxton lost what appeared to be { a certain try because one of its players was selfish. A five yards scrum was given and this enabled the visitors to work the ball as far as the 25 line where Procter gained r\ possession and transferred to Huff Atlijci scored a spectacular try. The kiok at goal just failed, y/FOXTON 3; ROVERS NIL. Free-kicks were frequently awarded to Rovers throughout the match'owing to a local hooker waiting on the opposite side for the, ball to come up arid to the general desire is of players to handle the ball in loose scrimmages. Fortunately for Foxton their opponents were numerically weak otherwise the result woijjd have been in suspenee. F. ' Procter was responsible for many very good passing-rushes and on one occasion was ably supported by F. Robinson who scored. ■ Reay was entrusted with the kick but failed. FOXTON 6; ROVERS NIL. From a series of give-and-take play, which followed, a dribblingrush was initiated and M. Brearty was responsible for the third try. % Robinson had another shot at goal and failed. FOXTON 9; ROVERS NIL. Immediately after this try the • whistle blew for half-time. During the second spell Procter had many attempts to get his backs going, which finally saw Hirini racing over the line with the ball. F. , * Robinson again failed with the kick. FOXTON 12; ROVERS NIL. , ' Foxton returned immediately to, attack and, when a certain try seem.-. • ed possible McKnight defeated the opportunity napping on the other side. A dribbling-rush followed by, , a free-kick by Rovers, in which McKnight always got the better of his side by about five yards and in which he took part the ball hesita- ; ted before the line was reached and like the ball he hesitated too, but before any one could repeat, the words “William 1 Clarke”, he was over the line with it. The shot at the space between the uprights and • above the bar met with the same fate as the rest. ’ ■ v FOXTON 15; ROVERS NIL. The play was in mid-field when the gong sounded for oheers. Mr. S.; Reeves gave entire stisfaction in controlling' the game. FOXTON JUNIORS 11; WERAROA NIL. Hirini converted. FOXTON 5; WERAROA NIL. .

) Onwards the backs displayed much scientific football and with W. Christie at half they were scarcely idle. Many passing-rushes were attempted and narrowly failed.
