REV. PAPAKURA COMPANY.

Referring, to the appearance ofthe above company at Oamaru, the Mail savs:

“There was a good attendance at the Opera House last evening, when Mr Louis Alsace presented his classical vaudeville company, headed by the Rev. Papakura, who recently returned from a concert tour of America. The programme consisted of vocal and instrumental items, which were well received by the audience. . . . The Rev. Papakura received an enthusiastic encore for his first two items —“E’legie” and “Lowland Sea.” . . Rev. Papakura has a splendid tenor voice, with a splend* id range, while his enunciation is above the ordinary. “Madame Rene To Au received an excellent reception with her opening number, Chaminade’s “L’ete,” her splendid soprano voice reaching the highest notes without the slightest difficulty, while the clearness of tone was exceptional. A triple encore was awarded this artiste. . . Successful as they were in their solo numbers, .these, two artists again took, the audienee with them in thelfl concerted efforts, the first of wliicy was “Maytime,” which resulted ijj two re-appearances. Mr AlsayJ was very successful with his vndaß solos, while he was given a heart* encore for his efforts on the “Als.tJ cephone,” an instrument of hi» owR construction. Sketches from ma •ried life entitled “Afer the HoigJS moon,” “Telling Your Wife Story,” and “The Reason Why,” ar-' ranged by William Bayley and placed by Joan E. Croyd and Paul Rczella, proved very amusing. . . Priscilla Greene was successful with Kennedy Russell’s song, “Dear Litile Jammy Face,” to which she bad to return. . . . Air William Bayley contributed several monologues in a polished manner. The finale was effective, the whole company singing “Blue Bird,” “Rackety Goo,” and “Polcare Rare Ane.” I he company appear at Foxton on Friday next. Seats may be booked at Heath’s.
