ADVISORY COAIAHTTEE
APPOINTED,
The last committee and annual meetings of . the Foxton Patriotic Society were held in the Council Chambers on Thursday night, when an advisory committee was appointed under the National War Funds Aqt, to investigate local cases of relief and administer the fund in connection with the National War Funds Council. COMMITTEE MEETING. The last meeting of the Patriotic committee was held prior to the annual meeting. There were present : Messrs W. E. Barber (president). J Chrystall (Mayor), Hornblow, Thomson. Airs AlcAlurray, and Miss Sewell and the secretary (Air Trueman). Sevei’al apologies wbre received from absent members. An application for relief was received from a local applicant, who had suffered, severe war disabilities, but had enlisted in another district. Tr was decided to grant £lO and make application to the parent society for a refund and to that a further weekly allowance be' granted until applicant is fit to work. An application for relief from an ex-Christchurch soldier, referred to the Christchurch society could not be sustained as the disability was not attributable to war service. Outstanding loans were discussed at length and it was decided to send a circular letter to those who had failed to meet their obligations and to deal with replies at next meeting. A XNUA L> AIEETTNG. The final annual meeting of the society was then held, at which'there was no added attendance. The annual report and balance sheet (previously published), was read and adopted. Air Hornblow said as this was the last meeting of the Patriotic Society he desired to pay a tribute to the good work done by the committee in adminstering the funds since the inception ’of the society. Those concerned had done a considerable amount of work, and in dealing with cases had acted fairly. Sentiment may at times have actuated the committee and for this they were entitled to praise rather than censure. The public and returned men were indebted to the society for its past services and he would like to place this tribute on record.
A?r Barber, on behalf of the soeiey, thanked Air Hornblow for his encomiums, and for the splendid co.-operation of all in the past.
If was -decided that the advisory .committee consist of eight members, and the following were elected: — Messrs Barber, Chrystall, Hornblow, Thomson, G. Huntley, and Mesdames P. Robinson, MeMurray, and Miss Sewell. ADVISORY COMMITTEE. A meeting of the advisory committee wn£ held and Mr W. E. Barber was appointed chairman, and Mr Trueman was appointed secretary. If was decided to meet on the last Thursday in each month at 7.30 p.m. The secretary reported that he had transferred the society’s funds amounting to £2539 2s 7d to the National War Funds Account, hut so far an imprest account had not been opened. This would be done at an early date.
