BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING.
' The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Monday ‘ night. - . V*> COUNCIL TO ISSUE A . : DEBENTURES, A' motion was moved that applications having been made, without success, to the State Advances Office,the council makes application to the Governof-in-Council for authority to raise a loan to wipe off the antecedent liability of £1,091 8s Od; the loan to be by way of short dated debentures bearing interest at 6 p<sr. cent, per |innum for a term of seven years, the issue to consist of eleven debentures -of £SO each, interest on the loan to be secured by a special fate pf 11-64 d in the £ on the unimproved rateable properties in the Borough of Foxton; that the Mayor and Treasurer be, and are hereby, appointed to sign the said debentures. : , • /
The Mayor, in moving the motion, said that he. considered it the only way out of The difficulty. The motion was carried unanimously. WATER AND DRAINAGE ENGINEER’S REPORT. Artesian Wells. — The contractor has. completed well N 0.3, having obtained an excellent flow at 200 feet.* Work has now been commenced on well N 0.4, which is now down about 30 feet. J Pump House. — The necessary connections are being made to the two pumps. Water Tower. —The tower is now concreted up, to a height of 75 feet and the contractor is placing the timber in position for the floor of the main tank. Water Pipe Laying. — As the result of a newspaper advertisement some applications are being placed before the council for the position of foreman 'pipe layer and as soon as one is appointed we recommend that the work of main laying be proceeded with. ' : Septic and. Collecting Tank. — The septic tank is complete and the excavation has been commenced for the collecting tank: Connecting Artesian Wells With Pump House. — The estimated cost of-'carrying out this work with concrete pipes is placed before the council and we recommend that this work be proceeded with. —Adopted \ WORKING FOREMAN APPOINTED. It was decided that Mr W. Snelling be appointed to the position of working foreman and caulker in . connection with: the laying of the water pipes in Main Street. CEMETERY RESERVE. Mr H. Berry's tender for the lease of the cemetery reserve for a term of 7 years at an annual rental of £36 was accepted.
