BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
, A Committee meeting of the nbove was held op Monday evening. There was a good attendance, pre-
sided over by Air Pc.rreau. The Finance Committee reported that it. had sanctioned 'work' on Easton Park, an<( attended to other minor matters. A communication from the Borough Council was read, to the effect that the Society’s letter re improving the river bank had been “received.”
Mr Perrenu reported that a number of seats which had been donated by citizens had arrived for Easton Park and the old cemetery. These hacl not yet been paid for, and he asked that the matter be a Society transaction. He did not anticipate any difficulty in collecting from the donors. It was decided to pass the transaction through - the Society’s' books, and that Mr Perreau collect the promised. donations, and that the seats he stored in the meantime.
The following report presented by the Chairman (Mr Christie) of the Cemetery Reservp was read and adopted:—“We desire to report as follows: —-A number of members met on the reserve during the month, and after inspecting the plans re laying out of garden plots, decided that this work should be held over until the paths are put down and steps erected giving access to the top of the lpll. Aly Committee endorse ■ this recommendation, and urge that the Finance Committee obtain estimates ■ for the /work, so that it may be proceeded with without delay. Aly Committee l’ecommend that the Finance Committee take the''pecess’ary steps to erect the gate, which is long overdue. Seats have been dumped on the ground near the fence, and these, should be stored until spa'ce is assigned for them. We would also like two ladies added to our committee for advisory purposes. It has been suggested that a i-est room for ladies be, erected at the south west corner, and the Committee would urge that, the Council assist them financially in erecting same. Until the matters suggested arc carried out we do not think it necessary to'spcncLany money on clearing up the grounds but ns soon as the paths, steps and gate are attended to we will get on with the flower beds and planting.” It was decided, on tlie motion of Mr Moorhouse, that the Finance Committee he authorised to prepare specifications for paths and steps, as suggested, apd that tenders be submitted to the next meeting of the Committee. " The Cemetery Committee was authorised to purchase' and erect gate at a cost not to exceed the amount allocated for this work.
The question, of approaching the Borough Council re erection of rest room was held over. " , ’ The names of Mesdames F. Robinson and McMurray were suggested to be added to the Cemetery Committee. •’ '
