A-dams, .*. headmaster of the Mangaweka State School, has retired from active duty, and his resignation, which came before the'Wanganui Education Board the other evening, occasioned a well - merited tidbute in the form of a re- , solution thanking him for his long service. ‘ In retiring on superannuation, Mr 1 * Adams leaves behind him,a remarkable record of-good service. He wai recognised as an expert in the educational world, and was in turn ~ - headmaster of the Turakina, Patea, Foxton, and. Mangaweka State \ Schools.. Mr Adams could claim to be a/ pioneer of education in New Zealand in agriculture and nature study. He was Queen’s. prizeman in agriculture in 1880, and won the first travelling scholarship in nature study in 1905. He was the auth.or of those informative books, “Some Aspects of Education in Australia” and “A Course in Nature - Study,” published by the Wanganui Education Board in’l9os. Then for seven years he had charge of the Wanganui Education Board’s Saturday training classes for teachers in school' methods, agriculture science, drawing and singing. In another direction Air Adams also found scope for his activities. ' He was a prominent rifle shot, and in the old volunteer days was captain of the Turakina Rifle Club, captain of l .the Patea Rifle and major of the Third Wanganui Battalion of Cadets.
