Mr Christie introduced the subject of better telephonic communication with Palmerston N. after 6 p.m. He said that the wire at night was used for tong' distance messages beiween flic centres, and that Foxton’s communications were despatched via Levin, causing" delay and inconvenience to subscribers. A direct wire was required between Foxton and Palmerston N. He had discussed the subject with the local postmaster, who was sympathetic. He moved that a letter be forwarded to the local Postmaster, asking him to recommend a’ direct wire between Foxton and Palmerston.
Ollier members spoke of the delay caused through diverting local night connections through Levin, and supported the motion, which was carried unanimously. Members took oceasioh to make appreciative reference to the local postmaster and staff for courtesy in- the discharge ; of their duties.

The president and Mr Whibley were deputed to confer with the postmaster on the subject, " and draft a circular letter to be submitted to the next meeting. P. & T. OFFICERS AND OATH OF ALLEGIANCE.
The secretary of the. Pi and T. Officers’ Association wrote, assuring the Chamber that its 'members held the oath of secrecy regarding private or commercial business passing through their hands, and in no circumstances w'ould it attempt to protect any member who violated his oath. Affiliation with the Alliance of Labour, therefore, did not carry with it (as a circular letter / sent to all Chambers of Commerce had implied) any difference in the attitude of members towards the departmental oath of secrecy. In reply to Mr Homblow, the President said that ho circular had been received re the above. Mr Hornblow said he would regret to see the P. & T. service affiliated with the Alliance of Labour scheme. He X* moved that a reply be forwarded to the effect that this Chamber accepts the assurance re the oath of secrecy, but that it has not received thg circular referred to. —Carried.
