BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night.
CORRESPONDENCE, was read and dealt with as follows :
From the Department of Health, suggesting that rat traps and bait be set in the borough by the health inspector and borougli employees. —Received. From the Chamber of Commerce, asking that the Council grant them the use of; the Town Hall supperroom for jneetings at a nominal rent.
Cr. Coley said that if they allowed one local body to have the supperroom at a reduced rate, they would have to allow all to have it. Cr. Martin said that they had a scale of fees, and should stick by it.
The Mayor said that he thought they should meet local bodies.
Cr. Smith pointed out that the Chamber was doing good work, and should be met, as it was not very financial. It —was better to have the room let at a less rate than not at all. Cr. Ross said he favoured a reduction to local bodies. The motion that the Chamber of* Commerce he granted the use of the slipper-room for 2s 6d a night, lighting extra if not provided, was lost, Councillors Smith and Ross voting for it. From Mr C. Parker, asking if the Council had decided to renew their six selling of retorts, and submitting his charges for doing the work.
Decided that Mr Parker and his son he employed at 3s (id and 2s (id per hour respectively, lo erect bench of six retorts, travelling expenses not to he included.
