NEW MATRON APPOINTED.
TRAINEE OF THE INSTITUTION
. There were 21 applications for the position of nktron of the Palmerston District. Hospital, from all parts of the Dominion. The testimonials and -qualifications, from all the applicants were of a very high order. The executive submitted two names to the Board; and the Board decided that the final selection should be made by the executive alter a personal interview with the .l\y/> applicants. This took place at the Hospital on (Thursday, and ihe choice fell upon Miss M. 6avies.
* -Miss Davies, the new matron,-was trained in the Palmerston North Hospital under the late Dr. Martin, and was a sister on the staff. Site has had a long experience of nursing. From Palmerston North she went to Otira Gorge, where there is a hospital in connection wilh flic inen employed on Hint work, and thence to Akaron. Miss Davies joined the New Zealand Army Nursing Service, and did a good deal of nursing during the war. She had a fine experience, and for two years was at a casualty clearing station under an eminent French surgeon with a very capable staff. On her retfirn to New Zealand she was engaged in nursing at •frenlliant Military Hospital, where she held the position of Home Sister. Later Miss Davies was selected front (lie nurses df New Zealand (who made application) to he sent to England for further training in em/ieetion with Hie Red Cross scheme. However, Miss Davies.was unable to fake up the work for private reasons, and having, in the m< nlime, left Trent ham,, site engaged in private nursing.
