FIRE AT ELTHAM.

SMART WORK BY BRIGADE. Eltham, Yesterday. A fire occurred last night in a two-story building owned by G. W. Taylor, and occupied by G. Dempsey as a Vulcanising depot. The origin of the* lire.is unknown. The inflammable materials in the vulcanising, depot burnt very rapidly, but smart work by the brigade prevented the total destruction of the building. The insurances are £4OO on the building in the Royal Office. Dempsey’s policy of £3OO in the Taranaki Farmers’ Mutual Office expired on Monday.
