THE LICENSING QUESTION.
SfTTING OF PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE. V Wellington, Last Night.' The hearing of evidence on / beha.lf . of the National Council of Trade of New Zealand was continued to-day by the Recess Parliamentary Committee (chairman, M. F. F. . Hoeklv, M.P.) was set up to inquire as to what amendments of the„Lieensing Act will be accessary should the National No-License fail to be carried in December next. Evidence was also given by lepresentatives of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association of New Zealand, and the Associated Chartered Clubs, while the Rev. John Dawson (secretary) gave evidence on behalf of the New Zealand Alliance. Counsel appeared for different interests concerned. The sittings of the Committee will be continued to-morrow. Unless a good many more persons notify the chairman of their desire to give evidence, it is expected that the hearing of the witnesses will be concluded about the middle of next week.
