The magnitude to which the poultry industry has grown in the Manawatu district was an eye-opener to the members of the Poultry Association. On the eight farms they visited on Friday, there was a total of over 15,000 birds, all of which are. kept for laying purposes. With the increasing numbers going in for poultry, it is,fair to assume that the industry will be a most valuable one to the Manawatu.
A few weeks ago a committee charged with the erection of a monument at Varangeville (Meurthe et Moselle, France), to soldiers who died in the war, received delivery of a, monument furnished by a firm at Nancy. One of them noticed some characters on the marble base, and, reading it, found that the monument had been made in Germany. The committ'ee refused to precept delivery.
Much prominence was given in Siam to the recent discussion by the League of Nations on the question of the age of consent among Eastern. women and the Siamese delegate’s reply to the League’s committee. The Siamese delegates declared that it was impossible for his country to raise the age of consent because the girl of Siam reaches womanhood at the age of 12. The majority of Siamese women declare that Siam could not possibly adopt the' legislation of European countries in this matter.
. “We hope you will be at our next, centenary conference,” said a spe?aker, humorously, at the Methodist Conference at Auckland, when saying farewell to the overseas visitors. ‘‘l intend to be,” responded Bishop Locke, the American delegate, “and what a glorious, celebration it will be. We will have Archangel Laws and Archangel Isitt, M.P., on earth, on the platform once more,” concluded the speaker, amid laughter’.
