GIRL VICTIM OF OCCULT.

A “PROFESSOR’S” INFLUENCE. WILL IN HIS FAVOUR LEFT. The tragic death of a young heiress, who listened to the “heavenly voice” of a professor of the occult, and who, like Ophelia, was found dead on a bed of red roses and tiger- lilies, is puzzling the Berlin police. It led to the arrest of Professor Webar, described as “President of the Popular University of the Occult,” on a charge of murder. The dead girl is Fraulein Muller fielding, directress of a leading Berlin store. She was introduced to occult circles, and soon became a fervent, disciple of the supernatural. She told her friends she would finish her life in “the order.”. She raved to her closest intimates about Professor Weber’s “heavenly voice,” and when she attended the Christmas service at the “university” she described it as the “happiest day in her life.” On her return home she a'Sked the housekeeper to play “0 Star of Eve” from Wagner’s “Tannhauser,’ ’and her last words were. “Do not wake me up in the morning.” Next day, the . professor, with other women disciples, appeared at her home. The housekeeper said, “She is still sleeping.” The Professor answered, “She is probably no longer alive.” The terrified housekeeper knocked on the door, but found it locked. When it was smashed open the gild was discovered clad in a red silk garment in a dying condition. The whole room was adorned with flowers and branches of fir trees. Masses of red roses and lilies were piled round the girl, and on the table was a box containing her jewels. Near by was a letter, in which the Professor was nominated as heir to her property, and the executor to her'last will. She was taken to hospital, where she died from inflammation of the lungs, caused by veronal and morphia poisoning.

In her last lettdr she stated that she had kept, the poison since her last illness, but as she had not been ill for some years the police are doubtful of this, especially as it was proved, according to the rules of the “university,” that the president was •entitled to inherit all the property of his disciples.
