HEAVY TRAFFIC ON MAIN STREET.
At last, night’s Council meeting the Mayor jnotfed that, notice boards he erected at the northern end of Russell Street, and the southern end of Johnstone Street, directing heavy traffic via the above-named streets, thus relieving wear and tear on tlie Main Street.
The Mayor said he had lately noticed a number of heavy motor lorries going through the main thoroughfare, which had a bad effect on the tarred surface of the road. Cr. Bryant said he was against the motion, as all the drivers pulled up in the town for meals.'
Cr. Smith said that he would like to see as much traffic as possible through aFoxton, but considered heavy traffic should be diverted from the main thoroughfare. The motion was earned.
