SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present: Messrs Homblow (chairman), Geo. Coley; C. Pearson, F. D. Wbibley, Jno. Ross, A. Stevenson and M. E. Perreau. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. Nye -and P. Robinson. The new head master, Mr J. Banks, was in attendance, and was introduced and welcomed by the Chairman. Mr Banks briefly replied, and thanked the Committee for its cordial reception, and promise of co-operation in connection with his work. Mr Nye-was thanked for his gift of one ton of slack for boiler heating purposes. The- Chairman said he had conferred with'-the Board architect re covering the stairway leading to the boiler-room; and had written to the Board, asking that same be attended to.

On the motion of Messrs Coley and Ross it was decided to hold the annual school picnic and excursion to Ashhurst Domnin on Wednesday, March 29th, A sub-committee consisting. of Messrs Coley, Whibley, the Chairman and Headmaster were appointed to . arrange details, the headmaster and staff to arrange sports programme. It was decided that the Committee canvass for subscriptions in aid of the fund. An invitation was received from the Campbell Street School Committee inviting the local School Committee to be present at the official opening of their school by the Hon. C. J. Parr on Wednesday, 15th inst., at 3.30 p.m. It was decided to thank the Committee for the invitation, and to endeavour to be represented at same. The Headmaster reported certain repairs needed attrition at'the school residence. It was- decided to forward same on to the Board for consideration. Messrs Coley and Jno. Ross were appointed visitors for the month. The Headmaster reported the attendance that day at 402.
