FLAXMILLS EMPLOYEES’ WAGES.
COMPROMISE MAY BE EFFECTED. As a result of the Flaxworkers’ stop-work meeting to consider the proposed 10 per cent, reduction in wages, and a subsequent meeting of the Millers’ Association, it is probable that a compromise between both parties will be arrived at which will enable the industry to continue. The closing down of the mills at this period would inflict great hardship on a number of families throughout the district, and it is pleasing to note that both parties are acting in a spirit of conciliation.
