LABOUR OPENS -THE BALL. Christchurch, Last Night.® The Labour Party opened its eleetion campaign in Christchurch to- T night, when an open-air meeting was held in Victoria Square. Addresses were given by Messrs McCombs, Howard and Sullivan. It was stated by the chairman, Mr H. T. Armstrong, and also by Mr Howard, that the Labour Party would not join with the Liberals, and Messrs McCombs and Howard said the only effective opposition during the last session was that of Labour. The speakers dealt chiefly with taxation remissions, the Arbitration Amendment Act, and Public Service retrenchments.
