A. W. A. BARNARD’S INVENTION

A fortnight ago the directors of the Barnard Improved Safety Gun Co., Ltd., decided to issue some portion of the Company’s reserve shares for purchase only by the present script holders, which, it is interesting to note, have already been fully subscribed, local shareholders strongly supporting the issue, together with those residing in and around Palmerston North. We are informed by the Managing Director, Mr W. G. Richardson, that the world’s patent rights for this life-saving and accident-preventing device having now been- obtained, the intention is to push on the business with all possible speed. The Company is certainly to be congratulated upon the present particularly bright position and prospects of this valuable invention, which is' so generally approved of by shooting people, besides being thoroughly Hall-marked by the very favourable report of the Defence Committee presented to, and adopted by Parliament during the session just ended.

As many of our readers' are aware, the above mentioned can be fitted to all firearms at present in use, as well as to all firearms in course of manufacture, and we notice by an official return just published that no less than 10 deaths occurred during 1921 to youths alone whilst using pea rifles, quite aparfc from accidents not fatal to such, and this is entirely without taking into account, the serious adult casualty lists appertaining to all other guns and rifles. How essential it is that this invention, which positively prevents all these distressing accidents, should he in general use surely requires no argument, and we have not a doubt in our mind that all parents and guardians intend to see our laddies have this necessary protection; nor can we imagine any sensible shootist youth or adult being without same attached to his gun or rifle at so trifling a cost.

It is gratifying to know that this very important business emanates from our own good town, where it has been proved there are plenty of people having the necessary pep and brains to support so practical an invention.
