From the Chamber of Commerce, asking the Council’s co-operation in urging upon the Manawatu County Council the necessity for improving the Beach Road. —Deferred. GAS WORKS MANAGER.

The gas works manager, in his report, thanked the Council for his appointment. He had taken up his duties on February Ist. He asked for an amendment to certain conditions of appointment, making the notice re termination of position six weeks instead of three months, and that annual holiday be at the completion of each year’s employment; also that a sink be placed in the residence.

It was moved that that portion of agreement requiring three months’ notice of termination of agreement be rescinded, and that the period of notice be reduced to six weeks, also that the Gas Manager be authorised to put in a sink in'the manager’s house.

Cr. Ross, in speaking to the motion, said that he did not consider six weeks long enough, in view of a recent experience.

Cr. Bryant suggested two months. The Mayor said that he considered six weeks ample. It was not likely -that they would have a recurrence of the previous trouble. The motion was carried. .
