ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.

AT D. W. ROBERTSON'S PREMISES.

Several deliberate but unsuccessful attempts were made by some person or persons to break into the business premises of Messrs O. W. Robertson and C’o.’s (general storekeepers) last night. The windows in Whyte Street were broken, and the iron bars wrenched off by the intruders, but a quantity of slacked oats, etc., blocked further entrance. A further attempt to force an entrance through the back door was made, apparently with a crow bar, and although the door was knocked about, the several bolts were proof against the pressure.

Mr Kirkland, of Whyte’s Hotel opposite, said that no noise was heard by any of the inmates of the hotel. The police are investigating.
