SWIMMING.

A number of the local school boys, under the supervision of the head master (Mr L. J. Furrie), succeeded in gaining certificates for various distances swimming in the river yesterday afterno.on. The results were as follows: —

Learners’ Certificate, 50 yax’ds.— W. Andresen and R. Healey. Proficiency, 220 yards. —R. Ball 220 yds., N. Ball 440, R. Hartley 440, J. Coley 440, H. Hartley 540 i W. Stubbing 600, W. Andresen GOO, B. Crowe 960, H. Perreau 960, W. Wright 960. Merit, 1 mile or over. —H. Huff and E. Adinore, 11 miles. Credif is due to all the boys, particularly to Huff and Admore, who towards the last were swimming against a slight run out.
