SALVATION ARMY.
There was a fair attendance at ihe Army Hall on Thursday night to participate in the rally to Captain Goffin, who is en route to Auckland from Invercargill, where he will take charge of the former corps. Captain Smith presided, and extended a welcome to Captain Goffin on behalf of his old corps. He also extended a welcome to Mr Kelly (“Typhoon Jack"), who was accompanying Captain Goffin. Both visitors subsequently addressed the meeting. Mr Kelly gave a few interesting incidents from his life prior and subsequent to joining the Army. Captain Goffin, after expressing his pleasure at once again being among old friends, spoke of his work at Invercargill, and the progress made there. The Invercargill public had contributed £BOO for the band to provide instruments and uniforms, a large number of people had been enrolled, and the attendances at all meetings had greatly increased. He referred to the happy time spent in Foxton, and hoped there would he a revival in the work here. He would liked to have met members of the boy and girl scouts, and trusted that the work among the young people would be again taken up. In conclusion, he asked for their prayers on behalf of himself and Mrs Goffin in the important work he was about to take up in Auckland. It was announced that Mrs Goffin would visit them on Monday, and a special rally would take place at the Army Hall to welcome her.
