MOTOR ACCIDENT.
TWO MEN lINJURED. Dannevirke, Yesterday. Two men ai'e now in the Danne- ~ virke Hospital as the result of a motor accident near Woodville last night. One, Mr Ship, a member of the Anette Kellerman Company, had a leg broken. The other, Mr Munro Gabriel, wine and spirit merchant, of Palmerston North, has a fractured pelvis. His condition is critical. The driver of the car (his name is unknown) had a shoulder dislocated, but did not come here. The car was coming to Dannevirke from Palmerston North. It capsized before reaching Dannevirke. Mr Little, another member of the Kellerman Company, who was in the car, escaped injury, and was able to appear at the Dannevirke performance.
Later information states that there were five people in the car — Messrs Gabriel, Peat and L. Campbell (of Palmerston North), and Little and Ship (of the Annette Kellerman Company). Mr Peat was the driver of the car, and between 5.30 and 6 o’clock, near Woodville, a back tyre apparently skidded, and the car overturned into a ditch. Messrs Gabriel, Ship and Campbell were thrown clear of the car on to the road, the other two travellers being precipitated into the ditch. Mr Gabriel sustained serious injuries to the pelvis, Mr Ship had a leg broken, and Mr Campbell had a shoulder injured, though not seriously. The others escaped with a very severe shaking and bruises. Mrs Gabriel and family went to Dannevirke yesterday, and Mr Gabriel underwent an operation at 11 o’clock yesterday morning, but his condition is extremely critical.
